Noise Reduction Software - Reduce Image Noise at Adobe Photoshop with Dfine 2.0

Dfine 2.0 is a Noise Reduction Software for Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. This Software gives you control for editing your images. With Dfine 2.0 you will know how much and where to apply noise reduction. This Software makes easy to decrease noise in your images.

Dfine 2.0 Software is designed to help you prevent the loss of detail of your images. Contrast Noise and Color (Chrominance) Noise can be individually present in an image or might be seen in the same image. Fast or high ISO speeds and low light levels can add noise to images, while some images might exhibit high levels of JPEG artifacts.

Causes of Noise Reduction

There are many sources of noise. Heat generated might free electrons from the image sensor itself, thus contaminating the "true" photoelectrons. These "thermal electrons" give rise to a form of noise called thermal noise or dark current.

Another type of noise is more akin to the 'grain' obtained by using a high ISO film. When we use a higher ISO, we are amplifying the signal we receive from the light photons. Unfortunately, as we amplify the signal, we also amplify the background electrical noise that is present in any electrical system.

In low light, there is not enough light for a proper exposure and the longer we allow the image sensor to collect the weak signal, the more background electrical noise it also collects. In this case the background electrical noise may be higher than the signal.

In-Camera Reduction Of Noise

Camera manufacturers have therefore incorporated in their firmware noise reduction algorithms that kick in when a slow shutter speed and/or high ISO is used to try to reduce the noise.

Depending on the quality of the algorithms, these work only to a certain extent: they do not completely remove all noise and the smoothening effect of noise reduction is frequently accomplished at the expense of fine image detail.

Features of Dfine 2.0

U Point Technology

U Point technology powered Control Points have been added to Dfine 2.0 making it easy to reduce noise only where it is needed, maintaining details everywhere else.

Selectively Apply Noise Reduction

The Control Point and Color Range methods, along with the Selective Tool offer you the most advanced ways for selectively applying noise reduction to your images

New and Improved Noise Reduction Engine with Automatic Profiling

Dfine 2.0 contains a brand new reduction engine that provides best-in-class noise reduction while retaining an incredible amount of detail.

Improved User Interface

The new resizable interface lets you easily incorporate noise reduction into your workflow and quickly preview the results from the noise reduction applied.

American Photo Editor's Choice 2007 - Imaging Software

“Increased image noise is inevitable at the high ISO settings so useful for low-light handheld shooting, and that's where [Dfine 2.0] can help. It relies on the same U Point technology that Nik contributed to Nikon's Capture NX -- allowing one-click selection and automatic noise reduction of specific areas. You can even apply noise reduction with a brush tool.”
