Picasa is a digital photo organizer for editing and sharing photos. This software has improved by Google, Inc. since its first release.

has more features than before. In this release, Picasa is more easier to organizing, sharing and editing any digital photos in computer.

When you install Picasa, it will immediately scans your computer to search photos and then collects them into a single folder. The application not only collects JPEGs and GIFs formats, but all sorts of other image formats, even video files.

File types supported include:

Images: jpg, bmp, gif, png, psd, tif
Movies: avi, mpg, wmv, asf, mov (QuickTime)
RAW data files, including cameras from Canon, Nikon, Kodak, Minolta and Pentax.

The real good news, with Picasa you can edit your photos. You can instantly adjust highlights, shadows, fill lights, and color temperature. You can add all sorts of effects, including sepia, black and white, and soft focus. You can crop, straighten, remove red-eye, and more. And if you don't like an edit, you can reverse it with no more than the click of a mouse.

The other features is photo sharing. You can send your photos via Google Mail. Except, You can easily upload your pictures to most popular photo sharing wesites, including Shutterfly and Ofoto, or burn photos onto CD or DVD. Plus, the app still integrates with Picasa's photo-sharing client.

Picasa is free software. It is Integrated with other free Google services like Blogger, Gmail, Google Earth, etc.

Picasa 2.5 Digital Photo Software

You will get more features inPicasa 2.5. In this version you can view your folder hierarchy. In addition to the folders list, you can create custom photo groupings using "Albums." Pictures can also be annotated with keywords and captions which are written to the photo files. Picasa does not offer a system for rating photos, but you can apply a star to photos you wish to mark as favorites.

The new Web Albums feature in Picasa 2.5 gives you 250 MB of free space to post your photos online. This feature is nicely done. Picasa also integrates with Google's Blogger and Hello, a separate peer-to-peer photo-chat program. Geotagging is a new feature which allows you to add GPS location information to your photos and display your photos on Google Earth's satellite map.

Picasa and Gmail Storage Limits

Today (August, 13 2007), Google has launched a new service. In this service users can expand their Picasa and Gmail storage limits.

Currently, Picasa and Gmail offer 1 GB and 2.8 GB of storage space respectively.

All users of Picasa and Gmail who run out of the storage space will be able to purchase an additional space from Google. The price of this extra space start at $20 for 6 GB for yearly subscription service.

Additional storage plans include 25GB for $75, 100GB for $250, and 250GB for $500 per year. Unlike storage on the free service, users who have purchased the extra capacity will be able to fill it with any combination of Picasa and Gmail content. Free users are limited to each service's default limit.

To run Picasa in your computer, you need some system requirements:
  • PC with 300MHz Pentium® processor and MMX® technology.
  • 64 MB RAM (128MB Recommended)
  • 50 MB available hard disk space (100MB recommended)
  • 800 × 600 pixels, 16 bit colour monitor.
  • Microsoft® Windows 2000, or Microsoft® Windows XP.
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.01 or better (6.0 recommended). If at any time you get an “unable to authenticate” error, you should upgrade to IE 6.0.
  • Microsoft® DirectX 7.0 or higher (8.1 ships with XP, 9.0b recommended).
  • Optional: 56K Internet connection speed or better (for access to any online services).
